I just watched the finale and at the part where we first see the back if John Hurt’s head, I initially thought it was the Master. And then the Doctor said his whole spiel about how that’s him but not by the name of the Doctor. That’s obviously not the case, but just think about it. How mindblown would you have been if at the very end of the episode, the credits said “introducing John Hurt as The Master”?

doctor who lodger au where instead of a tardis, it’s a small blue house that is bigger than it seems on the inside, and instead of a time lord, the doctor is a land lord who takes in lost and lonely and impossible girls. but the house is old, so unbelievably old, and there are pictures of old residents left on the walls and the eleven different doctors that have owned the house all look like different people, yet the longer the girls stay in the house, the stranger it becomes and the more the facts don’t add up. who is the doctor? why do the eleven doctors look so completely different, and yet the same? and what happened to all the previous girls that lived there before?

headcanon: whenever the doctor loses a companion, they don’t actually die/forget/stay trapped in parallel universes. they get picked up by the gang of past companions, running through space together. perhaps they’ll one day cross paths with the doctor again. or not, it’s pretty fantastic either way.
